Generalizing the music that we don’t listen to as “white people music” simply because we aren’t fans of it is wrong. We use the classification lightheartedly but don’t we take offense when they say we only listen to rap?
Spending those mornings together is one of my favorite memories I have with my Dad and it makes me happy that he took an interest in my interests.
The Grammys are the epitome of mainstream music. For more under the radar artists we have both the BET Hip Hop Awards and the BET Awards, the Soul Train Awards, the annual XXL Freshman Class, and even the American Music Awards. But, in all honesty, none of these carry the same weight as a Grammy.
2017 was quite the year for our music. With practically everyone dropping a project and previously under the radar artists blowing up, it’s safe to say we got a little something from everyone and may even have become fans of someone new.
If we all got a dollar every time a rapper said “Yuh” or “Aye” nowadays we wouldn’t be able to refer to ourselves as broke college students anymore.
