When we discuss bridging the gap between Black America and Africa, music is one way of doing so. Afrobeats has infiltrated the airwaves globally for some time and music collaborations between Black American and African artists have aided in the widespread appreciation and interest in the vibrant genre, specifically in the United States. With Covid-19 restrictions being lifted, ‘we outside’ and Nigerian artists are making their way to the United States, some of which are first-time visits. AfroRave pioneer, Rema was the first to announce his US tour in May. The ‘Rema US Club Tour’ spanned over the course of two weeks, kicking off in New Jersey and wrapped up in Philadelphia. Rema released his debut album, Rema Compilation in 2020 and performed various tracks from the album. Shortly after the completion of his tour, Rema released a single titled “Soundgasm” and tweeted the name of his upcoming album, Rave & Roses—no release date yet. Rema and his label, Mavin Records received criticism by some fans who expressed that it was too soon for Rema to tour in the US. Rema does not allow the limiting beliefs of others—fan or not—to throw him off course and has proven that his influence is game-changing.
