Music is what keeps me going each day. I make sure to get my daily dose! J.Cole’s lyrics are a great representation of how one can be moved by words and sound. When I listen to music I pay attention to the lyrics. What is the message? How does it make me feel? What can I take away? If you are seeking some form of motivation add J.Cole to your playlist.
Do you wanna, do you wanna be…happy? Do you wanna, do you wanna be…free? Yes, J.Cole. Yes! Here are a few of my favorite J.Cole lyrics:
“It’s beauty in the struggle, ugliness in the success.”
A constant reminder that the road to success will not be easy. You will face obstacles and you may fail, but that’s the beauty behind it all. Our struggles play a part in shaping who we are. Our paths in life are unique to our experiences. Life is a learning process! Once you get to where you’re going, it won’t always be pretty. Like he says, there’s ugliness in the success. There may be more “ugliness” that tries to keep you away from what you have worked so hard for or you will realize that other people’s definition of success doesn’t necessarily fit yours.
“Always gon’ be a bigger house somewhere, but n**** feel me. Long as the people in that motherfucker love you dearly. Always gon’ be a whip that’s better than the the one you got. Always gon’ be some clothes that’s fresher than the ones you rock. Always gon’ be a b**** that’s badder out there on the tours, but you ain’t never gon’ be happy till you love yours.”
Your life seems small when compared to someone who has more than you, but we have to appreciate what we have. MAJOR KEY! We chase after the wrong things and are never satisfied. Be grateful and don’t stress over materialistic things. Enjoy your life and the people in it. Like he says, there’s always going to be something better out there, but you will never be happy until you love yours.
“No need to fix what God already put his paintbrush on.”
Male or female, we ALL deal with insecurities. These words are so true and I wish we could all realize it. For one, our society plays a huge role in the way we view ourselves. The physical standards of beauty are ridiculous. Just look around you! We all have flaws, but embracing who you are and not worrying about how others will view you is an important first step to loving yourself. One of my favorite parts of this song is how J.Cole touches on his own flaws:
“They tell me I should fix my grill, ‘cause I got money now. I ain’t gon’ sit around and front like I ain’t thought about it. A perfect smile is more appealing, but it’s funny how my shit is crooked. Look at how far I done got without it!”
“Ain’t a way around it no more, I am the greatest. A lotta n***** sat on the throne, I am the latest. I am the bravest, go toe to toe with the giants.”
We are our biggest critics. The way I apply these lyrics to my life is by realizing my greatness. Believe it! Speak good things into existence! You may encounter people who are more experienced than you in whatever it is you’re trying to do, but don’t let that dim your light. Repeat the lyrics, “I am the bravest, go toe to toe with the giants.” Basically saying you’re not afraid to step up to a challenge! You have the potential to be even greater than the greats, but you have to believe it. Also keep in mind that you have to put in the work it takes to be great. Daily affirmation: I AM THE GREATEST!
