It’s Never Too Late To Spring Clean Your Social Media

We spend so much time on social media and it has an effect on our attitudes and our everyday life. Read more for things to keep in mind when tidying up your social media.

When it comes to spring cleaning we tend to think about our wonderful homes, but have you ever thought about tidying up your social media? The amazing thing about it is that you can do it WHENEVER! Just take the time out of your day to make it happen. We spend so much time on social media and believe it or not, it has an effect on our attitudes and our everyday life. We are consumed by social media, which is why it is important that we take a step back and reevaluate the things that we are putting into the world and the things that we are consuming. If Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. are going to be a part of your life then it’s time to switch it up a bit. I’ve come up with a short list of things to keep in mind when tidying up your social media:

KNOW WHEN TO STEP AWAY

Your mental health is number one! Social media can be mentally draining. Do not feed into things that aren’t going to better you as an individual. It can be chaotic and you have to know when to step away from it. Social media is the place where negative people live and feed off of other negative individuals. Keep YOURSELF first. Do not let social media control your mood.

ARE YOU BENEFITING FROM IT?

T.H.I.N.K. before you post! What messages are you putting into the world? When posting ask yourself:

Is it TRUE?

Is it HELPFUL?

Is it INSPIRING?

Is it NECESSARY?

Is it KIND?

YOU GOTTA GO!

Ever scroll down your newsfeed and ask yourself, “Why do I follow you?” It happens too often. Guess what, there’s a solution for that! It doesn’t matter who you are, if you’re constantly being negative you gotta go! The person who complains 24/7. UNFRIEND. The person who posts their drama. UNFOLLOW. Any form of negativity or anyone ruining your vibe…YOU GOTTA GO! Simple. You should routinely delete or unfollow people who you don’t communicate with or who are just taking up space.

You may ask, “Well, what about my family?” Don’t feel bad for removing family members from your social media. Sometimes, those closest to us gotta go, too! You can still love them outside of social media.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT PEOPLE

Now that you’ve cleaned up your following list, follow people who inspire you. I recently went on an unfollowing spree because some of the people I followed weren’t on the same page as me. People who don’t have goals, people who constantly complain, people who post nonsense, the list goes on and on. In order to move forward, start by surrounding yourself with influential people. As I stated before, do not feed into things that aren’t going to better you as an individual.

When you block out negativity and allow positivity to come through, your mood will change and I promise you’ll enjoy being on social media a lot more. I’ve met so many amazing and talented individuals both in person and online who I see doing great things and it motivates me to do the same. Follow and befriend people who will motivate you. Remember, it is important that we take a step back and reevaluate the things that we are putting into the world and the things that we are consuming.

Along with following people who inspire you, aim to be an inspiration to others! Watch your content. Remember to step away from social media from time to time, T.H.I.N.K. before you post and follow the right people. Take the time evaluate the people you are following and decide if they gotta go or if they can stick around!
